Why a nutritional coach?

Metabolic efficiency refers to the body’s efficiency in utilizing its internal stores of carbohydrates and body fat at various intensities of exercise and at rest. Typically, as intensity of activity increases, carbohydrate utilization increases while fat utilization decreases. But, did you know, that with strategic manipulations of carbohydrate to protein ratios, the body can actually learn to burn a higher percentage of its internal fat stores at all activity levels? This is what the concept of metabolic efficiency is all about.

Eating a metabolically efficient diet can bring about other benefits such as decreasing the risk of gastrointestinal (GI) distress during exercise, improved energy levels, improving body weight and composition, and improving health markers (including blood cholesterol levels, triglycerides, fasting glucose, blood pressure).

Athletes benefit because they are able to utilize stored body fat for fuel at higher intensities of exercise, thus preserving their limited supply of glycogen and preventing or delaying onset of “the bonk”. Many athletes also find that eating a metabolically efficient diet improves their recovery time between workouts or after a tough race.
